Help Needed Collecting Signs- Chapulinas- November 13th 2016 Update

Friends for Jeff Spiegelman,

Once again, thank you so much for your support. What a big win! Now comes the big effort of collecting all of our yellow Spiegelman yard signs. If you would like to help us out, please see below for details.

-No rest for the weary! On Tuesday evening, the House Republican Caucus is getting together for an orientation meeting.

-On Friday is another meeting of the working group trying to navigate our way through the issues around the direct shipment of wine bill. It is great to be back to work!

-Saturday, at Marydel Fire Hall, is an event to raise money for K-9 ballistic vests for State Police dogs. Please go to https://www.facebook.com/events/337848866552414/ for more details.

-VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The yellow signs of the 11th District need to come up. If you would like to help us out with this HUGE endeavor, please let me know. It is very easy; choose a road or a neighborhood, pick up the signs off of people’s yards, and let me know so I can come get them or drop them off at Kent County GOP HQ (http://www.kentrepublicans.com/). That’s it. Pretty easy but a very important and very large task to be completed.

-Last Saturday night was the world premiere of A Hope for Hartly. Thank you so much to the Hartly Town Council for their certificate of appreciation. Councilman McGuire requested the photo we took be included in this update. To see it, please go to my facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/friends4jeff/)

-We will be putting together our next round of meetings with constituents shortly. Stay tuned. If you talk to your friends and neighbors and have a day/time that would work better for you, please let me know and we will try to accommodate you.

To celebrate Election Day 2016, I present you with the weirdest, most exotic, most interesting dishes I have ever cooked. Jenn and I really enjoyed these, and we hope you will too. If you have to look up what they are, maybe you don’t want to know…..

-3 oz freeze-dried, plain chapulines

-1 jalapeno pepper, chopped

-2 cloves garlic, chopped fine

-1 shallot, chopped

-1 tbsp chili powder

-2 tbsp salt

-1 lime, juiced

-3 tbsp olive oil

Soak the chapulines in 2 cups water mixed with half the jalapeno peppers, one of the garlic cloves, ½ the lime juice, and 1 teaspoon salt for 1 hour. Meanwhile, fry the remaining peppers, garlic, and shallots in the oil. When the garlic begins to brown, turn off the heat and scoop out the vegetables with a slotted spoon leaving the oil in the pan. Drain the chapulines. Reheat the oil. Saute the chapulines in the oil until they begin to crisp. Scoop out and let cool a bit on paper towels to get off any excess oil. Toss with the remaining lime juice, salt, and chili powder. Serve as finger food, on pizza, or on corn tortillas. Boast to your friends and colleagues what an adventurous eater you are.

— Thanks.
