Townsend Parade Saturday- Summer Corn Stirfry- September 17 2017 Update

Friends for Jeff Spiegelman,

This weekend is the Townsend Parade and Fair. See below for more details. I would love to have you join us walking in the parade.

-This week is Constitution Week. On Wednesday, I am going to be guest speaking at a couple of schools in Smyrna. Thank you to Missy Buchanan, JBM Intermediate, and Clayton Intermediate for allowing me to come in and talk to 5th graders about the importance of our founding document. Thank you to the Liberty Day group for giving us the idea and providing all the students with pocket Constitutions.

-On Thursday, I am going to be attending the Kent Distinguished Citizen Award Banquet honoring former Smyrna superintendent Debbie Wicks. It is well deserved!

-Friday is the Delaware Veterans Stand Down. Huge event at the Dover VFW for those who have served or are serving.

-On Saturday is one of our most important political events of the year. The Townsend Parade and Fair is always a fun time and I would like your help. We need volunteers to walk in the parade. We will have a float for those who would prefer to ride rather than walk. Please go to the link Townsend Parade and Fair w/ Rep. Spiegelman for more details.

Below is our meeting with constituents schedule for the rest of the year. Come to one or all for some good conversation about what is going on in Delaware politics.

September:

  • Monday, September 25th Noon to 1 p.m. Little Italy Pizza Shop

October:

  • Friday, October 13th 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Painted Stave
  • Wednesday, October 18th Noon to 1 p.m. Mamie Warren Senior Center
  • Saturday, October 21st 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. 3 Palms Zoo – Boo at the Zoo!  with a rain date of Saturday, October 28th

November:

  • Friday, November 3rd 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Harvest Ridge Winery
  • Monday, November 20th 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Willey’s

I am not sure where I got the idea for this recipe. It turned out really well. Even my wife, who doesn’t usually like corn from a can, ate some without complaint.

-8 oz. can sweet corn, drained
-1 large leek, sliced
-1 large red pepper, sliced
-1 clove garlic, pressed
-salt and pepper to taste
-2 tbsp olive oil

Cook the leek, garlic, red pepper, salt, and pepper in the oil on medium/high heat until the leek begins to brown. Add the corn and stir fry until it begins to blacken and shrivel a bit.

— Thanks.
