Coffee Wednesday Morning- Stuffed Mushrooms- July 9th 2017 Update

Friends for Jeff Spiegelman,

That was the worst June I have seen yet. We managed to get a budget done but not before some VERY hard choices had to be made. The offer to compromise on the income tax was slapped away. As such, we avoided raising the tax, but at a real cost to many others in the community. I want to be clear that I am NOT happy with the budget we passed and the taxes we had to raise to do it (and the cuts we were not allowed to make). But, this may be one of those cases where if everyone walks away from the table just as displeased, disappointed, and unhappy as I am, sometimes that means everyone did what they had to do for the survival of the state. Many of you many have questions or concerns (and anger) about what went down and I am willing to answer for it. The unfortunate fact is, in this budget year, nobody was going to get out unscathed.

-At 10 a.m. tomorrow I will be at Fifer Orchards to help ring in Delaware Produce Week.

-Wednesday is another meeting with constituents at the Young Bean in Clayton from 8 a.m.- 9 a.m. If you have concerns about what happened with the budget it might be a good time for us to talk face to face.

-On Friday I am a guest speaker at the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife Natural Resource Office Youth Academy graduation. Students are receiving their Hunter Safety and Boater Safety certifications.

-On Saturday is the Kenton 4th of July Parade starting at 9 a.m. Afterwards, I am on my way to Harvest Ridge for the release party of their new Blue Line White. This bottling is in honor of fallen Delaware State Police Office Stephen Ballard and other law enforcement. A big thank you goes out to Beth Rosebrooks who named the wine. Well done.

I invite constituents to stop by any of the following meetings to share a question or concern about a legislative or district matter that may be on their mind. We have added a couple of dates and times:

  • **NEW DAY** COFFEE MEETING – Wednesday, July 12th 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. – The Young Bean Coffee Shop (314 Main Street, Clayton)
  • MEET & GREET Saturday, July 22nd – 12-noon to 1 p.m. – 3 Palms Petting Zoo (924 Blackbird Forest Road, Clayton) – The RAIN DATE is Saturday, July 29th.

This is a quick and easy finger food or appetizer that can be made quickly and in large amounts:

-Mushroom caps

-Shredded cheddar cheese

-Sliced jalapenos

-Thin slices of prosciutto

Set the broiler to high. Add a slice of jalapeno in the cap. Fill the caps with cheese. Add a layer of prosciutto on top of the cheese. Broil until the cheese is melted. Enjoy.

— Thanks.
