Eats & Sweets Tuesday- Chutney- August 18 2019 Update

Friends for Jeff Spiegelman,

At this time last year, I think I was typing an update to you about how wet it had been the last month. Oh, what a difference a year makes.

-Tomorrow (Monday) I am going to attend the Downtown Development District Designation (the “DDD” Designation…. or is that supposed to be the “DDDD”?) in Delaware City (so the DDDD in D.C.). Two of the recipients this year are towns that have an 11th District presence: Middletown and Clayton.

-Tuesday morning is my next meeting with constituents at Eats & Sweets at 1 North Main Street in Smyrna. Come out and let me buy you a cup of coffee from 8 a.m – 9 a.m.

-I have some meetings coming up this week regarding the Townsend streetscape project’s effects on the Immanuel Church’s parking in Townsend. If you are a member of the church who has contacted me, thank you for your time. Senator Ennis and I are working on some possible solutions.

-Speaking of Townsend, I was just alerted that the Townsend Parade scheduled for the end of September has been canceled due to the ongoing streetscape project. However, the fair at the park is scheduled to go on as usual on September 28th. I plan on being there with a booth.

Below is our meeting with constituents schedule. Stop by one or all to chat.

-Tuesday, August 20 – Eats & Sweets 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

-**NEW DAY**Saturday, September 21 – 3 Palms Zoo  Noon to 1 p.m.   NEW LOCATION  1060 Vandyke Greenspring Rd Townsend 19734

-Monday, September 23 – Hartly Hardware 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

-Friday, October 18 – Painted Stave 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

-Wednesday, October 30 – Little Italy Pizza Shop Noon to 1 p.m.

I made a simple chutney. It was good. I did not write down the amounts. So, you might have to guesstimate a bit.

-1/2 a sliced onion

-2 cloves garlic

-1 tbsp fresh ginger

-6 sliced green onions

-2 peeled and sliced carrots

-1 sliced jalapeno pepper

-2 sprigs fresh thyme

-1 sprig fresh sage

-1 teaspoon coriander

-1 medium tomato

-6 cloves

-dash of nutmeg

-1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

-1/4 cup white vinegar

-4 tbsp sugar

-salt and pepper to taste

Steam the garlic, ginger, carrots, onions, jalapeno, thyme, and sage. Add all the ingredients to a food processor. Blend until soft. Place in refrigerator overnight for the flavors to come together. Find things to put it on. It will keep for some time in the refrigerator.

— Thanks.
